Cultivating Your Work and Life

I woke up this morning, had breakfast and coffee with my beautiful wife.  We also went for a wonderful walk in the cold crisp Maine air (the wind chill made it really cold).  I ran into a video online where Rachel Segal was giving a speech about her life changes.

The speech was great and she made some insightful points.  Sometimes we are happy with our lives as they are.  We could be missing our ultimate happiness however, by not exploring where we are and where we would like to be.

Personal alignment is very important for each person and for each person it is different.  What is important to you?

  • Is it important to move up the corporate ladder?
  • Do you want to make a lot of money and gain more respect from co-workers and business partners?
  • Do you want to be home with your family?
  • Is it important to be a good mom, dad, husband, wife?
  • Do you want to grow your own food?
  • Do you want to eliminate your daily commute?

Quite possibly, there could be hundreds of questions and each has its own answer based on you and your family’s desires.  Rachel brings up some great points and makes us think.  The video is mostly about her story, but you can put the same thinking towards your own situation.

Most of us follow the simplicity and minimalist blogs, because we are looking for that simpler life with less complication, which gives us the time to enjoy other aspects of our lives.  If we wanted ultimate success at work, we would read Success Magazine, and content about 80 hour work weeks, how to get ahead, how to look better than your peers, etc…

Personally, I want to be the best father and husband I can be, while still providing for our family.  I am lucky to love what I do, but who knows what the future will bring.  Maybe Kellie and I will be raising chickens and I will be doing digital marketing from a farm in the middle of Maine one day.  🙂

Have a great weekend!
