A Daily Devotional Note – Success

My daily devotional for yesterday: “Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors.  But this, too, is meaningless – like chasing the wind.  – Ecclesiastes 4:4

Don't try to keep up with the Jones

Keeping up with the Jones can have a cost.

A few weeks ago I wrote an article about keeping up with the Jones’.  What drives us and our purpose in being successful?  Are you constantly comparing your own success with that of others?

Remember there will always be someone more successful than you are at the moment, but there is almost always someone who wishes they were as successful as you are now.

In my other article I eluded to the fact the Jones’ may not exactly be as successful as we think, shown in the cartoon on the right.  On the other hand, if we are constantly wanting what someone else has, we do not take the time to enjoy the success we currently have.

If you already have food on the table, a roof over your head, someone who loves and cares about you, then success has already found you.  Make sure you enjoy what has been accomplished.  Pushing to be more successful is not bad, but not acknowledging how well you have done already is.

Comparing ourselves to others is also not a great idea.  As Solomon says, keeping up with the Jones’ is fruitless.  Set your own goals and remember to enjoy the journey.
