Make Your Bed – Small Things Matter

Make Your Bed

I recently watch a commencement speech by a Naval Admiral where he spoke about the importance of making your bed.  Sounds silly until you think about it further.

By making your bed the day begins with your very first accomplishment.  No matter what happens in your day, that one accomplishment will stay with you. Here is the video.

Admiral William H. McRaven’s speech also highlights how important getting the little things is to success along with never giving up.  Making our bed is such a small gesture, but the impact of starting your day with one small thing accomplished is powerful.

Whether you are trying to become debt free, have a smaller footprint on the earth, remove clutter from your home, or just trying to live more simply taking the first step is the most important one.  Start your day with one task that is leading toward your goals.

If you want to become debt free, sit down and work on your budget.  You do not have to complete all the work, but you can do one thing.  Gather all your expenses from last month and add them up.  If you have already gathered all your expenses, work on categorizing the expenses.

  1. Home
  2. Entertainment
  3. Food
  4. Eating out
  5. Gas
  6. Auto
  7. Clothing
  8. Utilities
  9. Cable/Internet

The same with removing clutter in your home.  Just pick a spot to remove clutter and it does not have to be a room.  Look at a desk and remove the clutter.

Remember if you have a goal, do not quit and make small steps.  Before you know it, your family will be living on a budget, the house is clutter free, or you are now the example to others trying to live simply.

Did you make your bed today?
